The Cape Town horse racing season is coming to a close and there is no better way to see it off than with a mixture of graded races, live entertainment and the most inviting seafood you can find… prawns.
The Cape Town Prawn Festival is back on 22 February 2020. Entry is free, and it promises to make Kenilworth Racecourse a busy hive of activity.
FOR THE HORSE RACING ENTHUSIASTS
You don’t have an event at the Kenilworth Racecourse without horse racing, and the Cape Town Prawn Festival promises some top-notch equestrian showcases. The racing schedule is filled with graded races including the Cape Derby (Grade 1), the Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes (Grade 2), the Vasco Prix du Cap (Grade 3), the Cape of Good Hope Nursery (Grade 3), the Kenilworth Fillies Nursery (Grade 3) and the Selangor Jet Master Stakes.
WITH OR WITHOUT PRAWNS, YOU’RE SORTED
The only thing more appetising than the racing line-up are the thousands of freshly cooked prawns. Prawn dishes will be on sale at R99 - these include 25 prawns, chips, rice and a choice of sauce.
If you’re there for the racing and don’t eat prawns, there will also be various food vendors, plus there will be live entertainment and activities to keep the kids busy.
BIG PRIZES FOR EXPENSIVE TASTES
There’s a reason horse racing is known as the sport of kings. Those who attend have expensive tastes. The Prawn Festival organisers will be satisfying those tastes with prizes worth more than R50,000. One lucky racegoer could bag R20,000 worth of household appliances.
You’ll have just as much fun with these things to do with kids.
