Located in the Cape Town CBD at the Portside Towers, Downtown Barbers opened their doors on 1 March 2019. This studio offers a modern, affordable one-stop shop for all grooming and soon, tattoo services too.

Hailing from Joburg, owner Jorge Fernandes has been managing various businesses in Cape Town since 2007 with the help of his local partner Lorn Reynders. Fernandes says: “Male grooming has always been a big part of my life and opening a shop that caters for that and serves as a networking hub was at the forefront of my idea. Being covered with tattoos, I naturally wanted to incorporate that service too.”

WHAT’S ON THE MENU AT DOWNTOWN BARBERS?
Downtown Barbers offers gentleman’s classic cuts, fading, shaving and grooming. “We noticed a trend in females wanting the same faded look as guys and we offer a fully-qualified female barber who can attend to both male and females wanting the same style,” says Fernandes. “Fading is when the hair is tapered from short at the bottom to longer on top, and is usually done at the sides and back of the head. It gives off a faded or shadow effect.” Fernandes adds that while waxing is a service that people tend to overlook, it’s an essential part of male grooming.

You can also stock up on products such as beard oil and hair wax. On 1 May, a tattoo artist will set up studio in the store where inking will be done on a walk-in basis or by appointment, depending on the size and detail of the tattoo.

What’s more, there’s an Absa ATM in the store for your cash needs. This convenience is available during the business’ regular hours. Of course, debit and credit card options are also available as payment options.
