#CapeTownTogether: let’s show our support for small businesses

Nominate a small business for the Small Business Spotlight and more

August 2021

We want to put the small businesses you know in the spotlight. From August till the end of October 2021 we’re calling on you to join us in spotlighting SMEs you admire. It takes 2 minutes. Nominate today. Nominated business could win:

✓ Up to R100 000 interest-free funding to grow your business*
✓ 1 of 6 editorial exposure packages on CapeTownMagazine.com to 622 000 people
✓ Each SME nominated could qualify for a business loan with 2 months of interest-free funding*
(Ts&Cs apply)

It’s open to any type of small business, no matter how “ordinary” it seems. From a small accounting business catering to freelancers or the entrepreneur roasting and selling your preferred coffee brand, and the business you feel makes your world better.

-------------------------------------------------------

It’s a challenging time for most of us in Cape Town, as we come to terms with the reality of the coronavirus pandemic and the nationwide lockdown. Some of us are lucky enough not to have our livelihood affected, but with trading restrictions in effect, many small local businesses are taking a huge hit.

The economy is under strain, but together we can keep many people afloat. So take part in an online cooking school (for free), get fresh produce delivered to your door or shop locally crafted jewellery.

TAKE THE STRESS OUT OF MOVING DURING LOCKDOWN
The restrictions on moving have been lifted (since the start of lockdown level 3) and Cape Removals will guide you through the whole process, from getting the permit to arranging your furniture for you. They serve the entire country, from small to big moves, and offices to houses. They also offer shared load removals to all cities across the country. To ensure everyone’s safety, the team strictly adheres to Covid-19 practises and policies at Cape Removals.

FIND YOUR INNER PEACE WITH AN ONLINE YOGA SESSION
To stay active during this lockdown period, Om Revolution has released daily online yoga classes, including meditation and yogalates. Experienced instructors will guide you through a variety of exercises to help reduce stress and anxiety, strengthen muscles, and increase flexibility. From Hatha and Yin to Vinyasa, join the next online yoga session with Om Revolution.

BRANDED FACE MASKS
Get your company name or logo branded on reusable or disposable masks (available for adults and kids) as well as on face shields and hand sanitisers. With every 100 masks you purchase, AroundAboutMasks, a project by Cape Town car rental company AroundAboutCars, will donate two to God’s Grace Child & Youth Care Centre in Langa. Plus, mention that you’re a CapeTownMag reader when you order and get a 10% discount from AroundAboutMasks.

IT’S JUST AN INTERVAL FOR THE LABIA THEATRE
The Labia Theatre is as Capetonian as Table Mountain, and like many local businesses, they have had to shut their doors during lockdown. But it’s not the end: it's just an intermission. Support them through this tough time (and pencil in some post-lockdown plans for yourself) by buying a prepaid voucher. After lockdown, you can exchange it for 10 discounted admissions.

STOCK UP ON DRY GOODS WITHOUT LEAVING YOUR HOUSE
While grocery shopping is allowed under lockdown, anyone who can avoid public areas should, for the sake of those who can’t. Fresch Online is an online food service that provides dry goods. They have everything from rice and grains to nuts and dried fruit, and they’re delivering throughout the lockdown. You can also look out for their specials and healthy recipes while also placing your order on freschonline.com

GO JEWELLERY SHOPPING
Dear Rae creates stunning pieces, from rings to pendants as well as custom designs. The Bree Street studio may be closed during the lockdown, but its online store is still running. All orders placed will be processed and manufactured once the lockdown has been lifted. Visit the Dear Rae online shop.

STOCK UP ON KITCHEN ESSENTIALS (AND BRUSH UP COOKING SKILLS FOR FREE)
Even though their doors are closed, Yuppiechef’s online store is open. They are now allowed to deliver essential items, which means you can order food, non-alcoholic drinks and cleaning products from them. Plus, cook off the cabin fever with Yuppiechef's online cooking school, which is available for free for 30 days. You'll learn to master popular recipes, techniques, and cooking styles from the comfort of home and at your own pace. Live the #isolationbaking dream by signing up on the Yuppiechef website.
