Bon Jovi Concert in Cape Town

Legendary American rock band set to touch down on South African shores in May 2013

Thirty supremely successful years after they initially formed, famed American rock band Bon Jovi is hitting the road once again and is set to play live in concert in Cape Town and Johannesburg in May 2013 as part of their worldwide ‘Because We Can’ tour.

The global stint, which kicks off in Canada in February and will ultimately take the legendary group to Europe, the Far East, Latin America and Australia, brings Bon Jovi to the stage of the Cape Town Stadium to captivate audiences with their signature hard rock sound on Tuesday, 7 May 2013.

One of the biggest, most iconic bands to come out of the wild ‘80s, the Grammy award-winning foursome – the core members of which include still-sexy lead singer Jon Bon Jovi, lead guitarist Richie Sambora, drummer Tico Torres and keyboardist David Bryan – has since released 11 studio albums and countless hit singles, earned a litany of prestigious accolades and nominations, been inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame (2006), and, perhaps most remarkably, is still entirely relevant and well-loved today.

While it was the 1986 release of their third album ‘Slippery When Wet’ that first cemented the band as international rock ‘n’ roll superstars – it was certified as diamond, sold over 28 million records and included two number one hits – it was the celebrated single ‘It’s My Life’ off the double-platinum 2000 album ‘Crush’ that helped to build a solid, loyal younger following.

Over a decade later, and the group not only still enjoys a diverse, committed fan base, but is also showing no signs of slowing down. Their 2013 global expedition marks their 15th concert tour to date (they’ve already performed over 2700 concerts in more than 50 countries), and will introduce audiences to fresh material off their new album ‘What About Now’, set to be launched only in 2013, while also treating long-time devotees to many of their older timeless tracks, like ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’, ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’ and ‘Who Says You Can’t Go Home’.

Needless to say, regardless of whether you’ve been a diehard fan from the get-go or simply have a weakness for catchy lyrics and quality rock, Bon Jovi’s Cape Town concert is bound to be one memorable, powerful musical performance.
