Blueberry picking and tasting in the Cape Winelands

Pick fresh berries and try a blueberry tasting

Last updated: Thursday, 28 March 2024

You’ve heard of blueberry picking, but did you know you could do a blueberry tasting? At Blueberry Bar, a hidden farm in Klapmuts, you can taste blueberry juices, buy fresh blueberries straight from the farm, or have a family picnic.

WEEKEND DAY TRIP: GO BLUEBERRY PICKING

At the Blueberry Bar, rows of bright blueberries beckon pickers of all ages. There's a playground for kids to have fun while you enjoy blueberries in the shade.

The U-pick experience is available Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays too (September to December). During harvest time, the blueberries are treated with mushroom spray and predator bugs instead of pesticides, making them as natural and organic as possible.

TRY A BLUEBERRY JUICE TASTING

While you’re on the farm, you can also try a blueberry juice tasting. This experience is available year-round. There are five flavours of natural and cold-pressed blueberry juices to try, like Blue Ice (blueberry, pomegranate, and mint), Zesty Blue (blueberry, lime, and rosemary) and Blue Fire (blueberry, orange, and chilli).

The farm stall also sells products like jams, frozen berries, sorbets, cookies, chocolates, figs, and even fresh berries from the farm. There are rusks and biscotti too.

The cost is R70 for adults and R60 for kids and is available daily, from 8.30am to 3.30pm. Image: @outwithkids_capetown
