Special September Events: Milkshakes, Koesisters and Coffee Chocolate Pinotage

Plus sistas celebrating sistas and an open air dance festival

We’re celebrating more than braaing this September with milkshakes, authors and Chocolate Pinotage on our agenda.

There’s also a get together for natural women, a citywide festival of art and design and a playlist by a top local DJ that'll get you pumped for an open air dance festival he's playing at.

FOR THE LOVE OF KOESISTERS
Sunday, 1 September
The guys from Vannie Kaap, a Cape Town themed clothing and accessory store, and Radisson RED are bringing a bit of Cape Malay magic to heritage month. They’re hosting an event to celebrate the inaugural World Koesister Day (not Koeksister) in honor of the soft doughy, coconut covered, non-twirly version of the sweet treat. To do this, they're running a competition where anyone can enter their koesister recipe for a cash prize and the chance to be crowned the "Kwaiest Koesister" for World Koesister Day 2019.

COFFEE CHOCOLATE WINE ON TAP

POETRY, ART, MUSIC, FILM AND DESIGN

Over four days, the CBD, Observatory, and Langa will become a hive of activity with poetry, art, music, film and design. This hodgepodge of cultural diversity will see local businesses, creatives and a host of organisations pull together to put on a heritage weekend celebration called The Afrofest 2019.

DANCE OUTDOORS IN THE CASTLE WALLS

The Castle of Good Hope is going techno with amazing local and international DJ’s. International superstar Julian Wasserman joins local acts Bruno Mophet, Audiojerk, Sacred Sun and more for an outdoor party to usher spring into the Mother City. PIRATES, ZOMBIES AND WARRIOR BOYS

100 WRITERS AND THINKERS IN 5 DAYS
Wednesday to Sunday, 4-8 September
This five-day literary festival hosted at the Fugard Theatre, District 6 Museum and much-loved indie bookshop, The Book Lounge, celebrates local rock star writers and draws in international authors. More than 100 local and international wordsmiths come to present their latest work, talk about the craft, do readings, present workshops and engage in panel discussions on everything from writing to politics. at The Open Book Festival.
