Comedic giants and newbies take to the stage at this Observatory eatery

Kyk’hie my bru, Jou Ma Se... Comedy Club hosts top established and up-and-coming comedians every Thursday night at the Players Restaurant & Bar at the River Club in Observatory.

Week in and week out, funnymen and women step up to the plate to test their jokes and pick on audience members to illicit raucous giggles and guffaws. Each Thursday sees a different line-up of comedic acts, ensuring that when you inevitably become a regular, the gags don’t go stale.

Owned and run by South African funnyman and stand-up stalwart (insert: ageing) Kurt Schoonraad, the venture started up in 2008 to provide on-the-rise comics with a regular and reputable platform and to afford newbies invaluable exposure alongside top local and international comics. Aside from granting these fledgling fun-makers a much-needed support system, the weekly revues also give the Mother City’s chuckle-craving masses a recurring laugh-out-loud night out.

Tickets for Stand-up Thursdays at Jou Ma Se Comedy Club

Tickets are available via Webtickets.co.za or at the door on the night (subject to availability) and cost R80p/p and R40p/p for students with a valid student card.

The Players Restaurant & Bar at the River Club is on the corner of Liesbeek Parkway and Observatory Road in Cape Town. This local eatery offers up great food, a fully stocked bar and a cosy experience for all comedy lovers with ample secure parking. Do note that the restaurant makes Halaal-friendly meals.
