Time to try something different in the Mother City by heading to YoungstaCPT’s Chapter 26 Birthday Party
La la la la la… It's the one and only CPT – you know those are lyrics to YoungstaCPT’s song Wes-Kaap, right? Good, then expect this song and more when you head to his Chapter 26 annual birthday party happening at Canvas Event Space in Paarden Eiland on Saturday, 23 December 2017.
The hip hop emcee from Ottery on the Cape Flats has released 29 mix tapes as well as numerous albums over the years. Many of his fans regard him as one of the best emcees of his generation. Youngsta describes his sound as “truly Cape Town”. He focuses on coloured culture and how tough it is growing up on the Cape Flats. His lyrics often feature slang synonymous with coloured people. He cites his music as taking you on an unofficial journey of the Mother City, introducing you to things you’ve likely never heard about before.
Annual party
For the sixth year running, Youngsta will host his birthday bash to which everyone is invited! Dubbed “Chapter 26” – because that’s how old he’ll be! – He has said: “Join me as I celebrate & paati to #Chapter 26” – with “paati” being the slang word for party in coloured communities across CPT.
Canvas Event Space, an open-air warehouse, is the ideal setting for this epic party. Look forward to live music, indoor and outdoor arenas, a Y?GEN pop-up, Hookah lounge and food by House of H. Tickets are available from Webtickets.co.za for R150/p.
Making waves
YoungastaCPT advocates for the inclusion and recognition of Cape Town rappers and emcees at events elsewhere in the country. As such, in 2015 he released the Top Ten List, which aimed to set the record straight on how he feels about lists ranking artists. Youngsta has performed in various countries around the globe, including the Netherlands and Australia. He’s also a favourite at large local events, including Rocking the Daisies and Sneaker Exchange. He is also part owner of Y?GEN Apparel, a streetwear range designed to specifically reflect the nuances of Cape coloured culture.
