Tuck into dumplings and enjoy live DJs at this rebellious spot on Bree Street
Last updated: 26 June 2023
Who Knows has closed down. Try one of Cape Town's wine bars.
---
This new spot isn’t your typical wine bar. With signed glasses, elevated street food and graffiti on the walls, Who Knows on Bree Street is an eccentric spot with an attitude.
Where else can you drink wine out of graffitied glasses in Cape Town? Image: Who Knows
When people think of a wine bar, most imagine a sophisticated spot with charcuterie boards and cheese pairings. Not Who Knows: this cheeky eatery on Bree Street rebels against expectations. Instead, you’ll find signed wine glasses (like Starbucks, but better) and booths and tables made out of crates. Tongue-in-cheek phrases like ‘Soup of the day: Champagne’ and ‘buy wine, not cocaine’ are graffitied on the walls. If guests are lucky, they’ll be able to make their own graffiti marks too.
When you visit, try to find the funniest piece of graffiti. Image: Who Knows
Who Knows serves upscale street food from across Asia, the Middle East, South Africa, Mexico and more. Think dumplings, arancini balls, crab bruschetta, and hummus and pita dip. True to its roots, the food is served in cardboard containers and an average meal will only cost you around R100.
