Party until 4am on Fridays or pop in for bunny chow Wednesdays at SurfaRosa
Last updated: 16 August 2022
It all falls apart at SurfaRosa…so they say. This friendly neighbourhood dive bar may be tiny, but it packs a big, punk-rock punch. With popular neighbours Harringtons and District Nightclub, this is a place to start off a good night or be the backdrop to a great night. All of this with bunny chow and pizza.

SurfaRosa is as colourful as it is moody. It has quirky little details, such as the ornaments and disco ball hanging from the ceiling. The bathrooms are famous for its graffiti art, and the punk-rock posters, made by local artists, stretch along the wooden outdoor alley.

The crowd on any given night is a vibrant mix of lively locals, rowdy regulars and thirsty travellers. DJs play the kind of music you want to bang your head to – think old punk, rock ‘n roll and house beats.

Besides the alternative vibe, SurfaRosa has become a popular hangout spot because of its affordable prices. You can order anything from beer to your favourite spirits, along with some quirky cocktails, like “Crocodile Tears” (a ginger-filled tiki delight with dark and spicy aromas) or “Cobra’s Fang” (a jam jar-style drink with berry and citrus flavours).
There’s a happy hour every day from 5pm - 7pm. Image: SurfaRosa
Did someone say bunny chow? Every Wednesday, SurfaRosa serves a mild or hot Durban-style mutton and butter-bean bunny chow with soft bread, perfect for a pre-party meal. You can also munch on classic pizzas, like the “Kevin Bacon” (bacon, feta, avo), “Sisters of Mercy” (vegan cheese + veggies) and “Ramones” (chilli steak strips + mushrooms). It’s open daily for lunch.
Keep an eye on its socials for some epic food + drinks specials. Image: SurfaRosa
SurfaRosa is open: Tuesdays, Wednesdays + Saturdays, 12pm - 12am; Thursdays + Fridays, 12pm - 4am; Sundays, 12pm - 10.30pm
