Romancing the Stones: Michal Negrin Sets up Shop in Cape Town

Loosen your purse strings - you might not be able to resist a spending spree at this new luxury shop at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront

Plump little cherubs with ruddy cheeks and blooming roses greet you upon entering the Michal Negrin store at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront. Step inside and discover Negrin's magical world of romance, femininity, fantasy and style.

Michal Negrin has been designing whimsical jewellery, clothing and home decor for more than two decades. This passionate Israeli designer's wares are sold in all the major cities in the world and women - from seven to seventy - are mesmerised by her unique selection of exquisitely crafted Victorian inspired creations.

Her pieces are painstakingly hand-crafted and adorned with materials like Victorian photographs, beads, Swarovski crystals, fabric and lace.

Michal Negrin doesn't only sell you jewellery, clothing or home accessories: She sells you a dream. Harp back to a childhood filled with princes, fairies and secret gardens; remember rummaging through your grandmother's closets for plush bric-a-brac treasures; enjoy high tea on the veranda (in a corset) with your very own Mr. Darcy: This is the world of Michal Negrin.

Negrin's life story also reads like a fairytale. This is the story of the girl from the kibbutz who left her humble beginnings behind for glitz, glamour and international acclaim.

This girl - who started up by selling her wares from a street stall in Tel Aviv - now owns 43 boutiques all over the world. Her jewellery adorns the throats, wrists, fingers and earlobes of the rich and famous in all the world's major cities. She has also become a darling of the Hollywood a-list:

A stellar cast of celebrities count themselves among Negrin's devoted fans: Nicole Kidman, Uma Thurman, Kim Basinger and Salma Hayek are all regular customers. Even the queen of England owns a Michal Negrin tiara.

But no fairytale would be complete without a dashing prince. Michal's husband runs the label with her: He manages the business side of things, giving Michal the chance to focus on doing what she enjoys best - making beautiful things.

Capetonians are enthralled to finally become part of the Negrin family. According to Joanne Rozen, co-owner of the newly opened Waterfront branch, women regularly walked into the shop mesmerized - exclaiming that they "feel like a princess".

Indulge in a dash of fantasy: Saddle up your white horse and enter the whimsical world of Michal Negrin.
