Meet on-air personality Tamsyn Brown - better known as Tammy B Awesome. This fearless female, who is a presenter for 2oceansvibe Radio, shows us exactly how to be unapologetically honest and fabulous
1. How would you describe what you do for a living?
D.I.V.A. This means I hustle all day, every day! I work to survive, but live to entertain!
2. What is your most vivid childhood memory?
I loved this short story film called ’Lambert the Sheepish Lion’. To this very day I know all the words to one of the songs they sing in the film, and guess what? I was only three-years-old when I watched it! You have to let your little kiddies watch it, its story is so beautiful and relevant, still to this day and age!
3. If you could invite any three people, dead or alive, for dinner, who would they be and why?
Well of course I would start with my parents! I know that anyone who has ever lost someone they love, would want that the most - just to make sure they are happy, just to hold them and tell them you love them, one more time. Then hmmm… this is so hard because I look up to so many people, but it would have to be Oprah - she helped me through so much in my life and has inspired so many of us women to get up and stop being the victim; to know that it’s okay to have insecurities, but not let them prevent you from becoming the person you are meant to become.
4. If you ever found yourself auditioning for a music reality TV show, what song would you sing and why?
HELLLUUUR! This is right up my alley! Well, if you love musicals like me, then you will know that ’I’m The Greatest Star’ from the musical ’Funny Girl’, which starred Barbra Streisand is one-of-a-kind and one of the best songs EVER! I literally scare people off the road when I am singing it in my car, because I go FULL DIVA! I love it, it’s what I call the female to my gay version of Bohemian Rhapsody!
5. How would you complete this sentence? The South African cabinet should include a Minister of _________________.
Awesomeness, (duh) haha!
6. What would you say is the biggest misconception about you?
People think that I am sensitive … okay, that’s true! Hmm, you know what? The truth is, people mostly find me intimidating and that is not true. I am just loud, but you can absolutely come hang with me - just don’t try and talk to me when Beyonce is on! I LOVE Beyonce, SO I WILL BE DANCING!
7. What is your (honest) opinion of Cape Town?
My honest opinion is… it’s ugly… the people are rude… nothing works for me here… it’s so last season. Hahaha, WAIT I am just kidding! I am so proud to be a born and bred Capetonian. I like to think of this place as its own country, because we all want to succeed and we hope for a better tomorrow together. I look at my mountain everyday and feel that spiritual connection, that sense of serenity, it just draws you in. Our heritage is our own and we can make a difference to society, Cape Town is the change, and even though I also call it broke-ass mountain (because us locals still have to pay tourist rates, which I hope will change very soon…hint hint DA) it has such a vibe! I LOVE MY MOUNTAIN, I LOVE MY CAPE TOWN! One thing that can change is the k*k driving though… yoh! Hello, stop looking at your phones when you are driving and start looking at the roads ek se!
8. What's the greatest fear you've had to overcome to get where you are today?
The fear of not being good enough. I was always looking for acceptance in the wrong places, it took me years to realise that no-one is perfect, so you can’t expect them to give you the tick to life - which is all in you and your acceptance of yourself. Love yourself first. Be your best friend. Then life will start making more sense.
9. What's the one thing you'd like to achieve before you die?
I have been dreaming of and working towards winning an Oscar since I first set my eyes on a wonderful movie called, wait for it - ’Star Wars’ when I was only five-years-old. I thought that if I could be a part of a world which offers the chance to expand our imaginations through sight and make them become some sort of reality, that only a really good movie could do, then I would do that for the rest of my life and be so happy. I didn’t know it would end up being a celeb and money-making empire, so I don’t give a s*** about all the haters, if I am Maggie Smith’s age winning an Oscar, then I’ll know all this hard work, hustle and broke-ass mountain stuff was worth every hard moment. Let me tell you though, I could die today and that would be okay, because I have had a hard life, but it has been a beautiful one, out of the darkness I found the light and nothing is going to stop me becoming who I am meant to be, because I have my own back! Don’t stop believing… hold on to the feeeeling! Hahaha!
10. Which well- known South African personality would you , without a doubt, be able to beat in a street fight and why?
