Wine Tasting With a Twist

Nibble on nougat then smell, sip and swirl Chardonnay

The family-owned Avontuur wine and stud farm is at it again, once more proving itself to be a must-visit Winelands destination. Home to an array of award-winning vino and over 100 majestic horses, Avontuur Wine Estate in the Helderberg region of Stellenbosch offers added specialised tastings as part of their unique offering.

Guests can experience a different wine and taste sensations regularly, with the pairings changing with the seasons – sometimes even more frequently. Kicking off these recurring specialised tastings for the summer season is the return of their very popular nougat and fudge pairings with five of Avontuur’s finest wines.

Other tastings include wine pairings with biltong, chocolate cupcakes and even ice cream. The duration of the pairings may extend from one month to several months depending on the season and time of year.

All pairings are self-guided with assistance from one of the estate’s tasting room staff members. Each tasting lasts for around 30 minutes and can be done all day, every day, for as long as the tasting room is open. These tastings are the perfect alternative to a run-of-the-mill date, but work for bigger groups too as the tasting room can accommodate up to 24 people.

PRICE AND BOOKING INFORMATION FOR SPECIALISED TASTINGS AT AVONTUUR WINE FARM

A 30-minute tasting of up to five wines, with their respective accompaniments, costs R120/p. It is not essential to book for individual and/or small groups, but for groups of six or more it is recommended to call beforehand to avoid disappointment.
