Stunning images of snow in the Western Cape

Locals from Blouberg to Ceres share stunning images of snow in the Cape

Who would have thought that after a water crisis leading to a significant drought in 2018, there would be snow in the Western Cape? These images and videos from our feed and Storm Report SA and Snow Report SA, a winter-focused snow news channel in South Africa show snow in Matroosberg, Swartberg mountains and Greyton.

ITS GETTING “YSKOUD”
On Tuesday 26 May, in the early morning, the Swartberg mountains at Kleinvlei plaas received a downpour of snow. Lucky for us, Ellis Jannie sent a picture of the snow covering his sheep to Cape Town Magazine.

THERE’S ENOUGH TO MAKE A SNOWMAN
Thanks to Tara-Lee Fraser and Chané Cilliers Storm Report SA received two images of hail from Blouberg and Kleinmond.

FROM GREYTON TO CERES
Snow Report SA received two snow-covered images from Demyan in Greyton and Aniska in Laastedrift showing us just how beautiful snow really is. For more accurate and detailed snow forecasts you can follow Snow Report SA via snowreport.co.za.

SWAPPING TRAIL RIDES FOR SNOW SLIDES
Matroosberg Reserve posted on their Facebook page on 11 June that due to the snow the 4x4 and hiking trails would sadly be closed. However, to quote the Matroosberg Reserve’s Facebook post, the employees still had “snow much fun”.

ENJOY THE SNOW WHILE IT’S HERE
The cold front in the Cape is expected to last until Thursday evening, 11 June with a high of 12 degrees until Thursday afternoon. After then, Capetonians can expect to see more sun with a bit of cloud cover for the rest of the week, with just a bit of rain on Sunday 14 June.
