SeaBreeze Fish & Shell on Bree Street

The latest addition to Bree Street offers mouth-watering coastal produce

You needn’t go fishing to enjoy some fresh seafood in the Mother City. SeaBreeze Fish & Shell is situated within Cape Town’s culinary hub on Upper Bree Street. The restaurant gives the CBD some local flavour while offering a modern, polished hotspot for Capetonians to rekindle their love for seafood.

With owners Alex and Ruth Grahame sharing their love for seafood in Cape Town, the previous owners of the well-renowned Hornblowers in Gourdon, Scotland, dish up the delights Cape Town’s coastline has to offer. “Cape Town overflows with spectacular seafood and our focus is to create a restaurant celebrating all that wonderful fresh produce,” says Ruth. “Whether people pop in for a bite to eat during their work day, some oysters and fizz after work or decide to linger longer over our dinner options, we want each dish and experience to remind people what great seafood is all about” added Grahame.

The space has a bit of a romantic feel, with the hues of deep ocean blue and white hugging the walls of the interior. Patrons can also choose to sit at the 10m long communal high-top, situated at the centre of the Bree Street hotspot, where you can overlook the cocktail and oyster bars. Snuggly booth-like tables are also available, which allows for couples to get up close and personal while the friendly waiters fill your belly with some of the best saltwater creatures and shellfish.

The focus at SeaBreeze Fish & Shell is on sourcing fresh local, sustainable seafood, which is why the menu changes daily, offering a varied taste for some of the freshest catch. Think oysters and MCC, seared tuna burgers served with crispy onions, hake ceviche with cream cheese and squid ink mayo- and of course the classic battered hake and chips, also known as fish ‘n chips.

Tip: SeaBreeze also offers a daily deal of Oyster Happy Hour, which is known as “10 bucks a shuck”, from 5-6pm every single day!

There’s not much more that a patron can ask for when being served up some of the freshest sea produce on a cold winter’s night. With the warm venue and comfort of chitter-chatter in the surrounds; SeaBreeze offers an ideal space for dining with friends, family or your significant other.

Note: If you’re drawn to the dainty fairy lights on Bree Street and the phenomenal outdoor vibe, perhaps take a jacket along when choosing the curbside seating at SeaBreeze Fish & Shell.

The Bill: The menu varies according to available produce. Natural Oysters (Knysna and Saldanha): R16 | Dressed Oysters: R18 | Small Plates: R55 – R130 | Main Courses: R90 – R145 | Sides: R30 – R40

Opening Hours: Monday to Saturday: 12pm–21:30pm | Sunday: Closed
