Tru Pizza & Co, Milnerton

Tasty wood-fire pizza delivered right to your door!

Situated at Platinum Junction in Milnerton, Tru Pizza & Co not only offers the best wood-fired pizza in Cape Town, but also free delivery and no extra cost for gluten-free pizza bases!

Co-owners and siblings Tyrone and Terence Loydall decided to open their own pizza joint, Tru Pizza & Co after realising that they were sitting on a diamond mine with a unique knack for food running in their blood. Tyrone runs the kitchen with over four years of experience in the fine dining industry, while Terence’s creative juices flows through his veins behind a camera with over five years’ experience in the creative industry producing films, and has now taken on the role of controlling the front end of the business.

The dynamic duo wanted to offer the pizzeria market something unique with their locally sourced ingredients, preservative-free cheese and stone ground flour, and our favourite part: no extra cost on gluten-free pizza bases! “We started a gluten-free bakery called Mom ‘n Ty’s and we [Tru Pizza & Co] supply gluten-free pizza bases to big restaurant chains nationwide like Primi Piatti,” says Terence. “We thought we should ‘wow’ the market a bit by offering this option free of charge”.

Not only is this a huge plus for the health-conscious, the less-reserved pizza lover will also enjoy the usual gluten-friendly base. “I wasn’t prepared to use any bleached bases or bases with any preservatives,” says Tyrone. “Most pizzerias use sugar in their dough. It elevates the yeast and makes it rise better and we don’t use sugar. We use natural raw honey in our bases, in an attempt to keep it as healthy as possible. Everything is a lot cleaner in terms of our base.”

Tru Pizza & Co builds their authentic brand based on the motto, “Be happy, pizza exists”. This happiness can not only be felt in the manner that they serve their patrons, but can also be tasted in a single bite of Tru Pizza’s wood-fired pizza. Try the all-time favourite BFA (bacon, feta, avo) or Terence’s favourite, Sweet Camembert. This delicious vegetarian pizza consists of camembert, fig and rocket on the unique stone ground base, or gluten-free base. Or for the carnivore, try chef Tyrone’s favourite: the Parma, which contains parma ham, red onion, rocket and balsamic reduction.

Tru Pizza & Co’s menu is divided into five sections: Since The Dawn Of Time, which includes fresh fruit, veg, ham or smoked chicken toppings; For That One Special Person category, which offers special signature toppings like piquante peppers, pepperoni, brie or capers; Go Big Or Go Gourmet which includes gourmet toppings like biltong, basil pesto, parma ham or camembert, and That’s Ridiculous which are real hunger-busters including toppings like bacon, ham, salami, smoked beef and pulled ribs.

Tip: Tru Pizza & Co are looking at expanding in the near future, with a hot pizza joint in the City Bowl. The forthcoming hotspot aims to offer a bar and chilled vibe, seating between thirty to forty patrons. Keep your eyes peeled to Tru Pizza & Co’s social media for more!
