Ten things you didn’t know about Madame Zingara

She’s back!

Madame Zingara’s beloved Victoria (antique tent) is back in the Mother City for a brand new show from September 2011 at Century City in celebration of their 10th anniversary. Audiences can look forward to a fusion of the very best acts from the past decade, with different acts being incorporated monthly.

We caught up with Richard Griffin, founder and managing director, who gave us the low down.

Ten things you didn’t know about Madame Zingara

1. All Madame Zingara’s creative executions are designed by a team of super talented and dedicated eleven people.

2. It takes 14m of fabric to make Stella’s (of The Original Tons) mermaid outfit.

3. Richard shouts on average five times a day. Pitch varies every time.

4. Many of Madame Zingara’s staff have been with the company for over 10 years; employees generally stay with the company for between 4 and 8 years.

5. If you want to know anything about company gossip, head straight to Mo-Jo McDonald (box office manager) or Lillian Khumalo (another original).

6. The Theatre of Dreams dinner cirque serves over a ton of fillet each month.

7. Madame Zingara is the largest single independent contributor to the non-profit/NGO sector in the city

8. The entire tent is assembled without any bolts, nails or any ground points.

9. At any given time, Zingara houses up to 120 staff in accommodation.

10. The company has a private therapy room called The Lotus Room which has a dedicated counselor to look after the emotional well-being of the staff.
