Leon Qwabe’s Order Kasi app connects restaurants to townships

Mainstream delivery apps such as Uber Eats and Mr Delivery still do not deliver in many township areas, meaning that both township residents and the surrounding restaurants lose out on the service and convenience. Nyanga resident Leon Qwabe decided to meet the need to connect smaller township restaurants to a broader market in 2016, when he created the fast-food delivery app. Order Kasi.

IT'S THE FIRST IN CAPE TOWN
Order Kasi is the first and only Kasi meal delivery service in Cape Town. Created initially because of Qwabe's love for Kasi food, the delivery app has since expanded its reach from Khayelitsha in 2016 to Langa, Gugulethu, Nyanga, Mitchells Plain, Kuils River, Mfuleni and Paarl. 

QWABE SAW A GAP IN THE MARKET
"I stay in Nyanga, and I would crave dishes from venues around the townships, but it would be a mission to get to them especially without a car," Qwabe told Business Insider. "When I started looking into it, I found that such a service did not exist at all." 

SERVED WITH A FIRM FOCUS ON TOWNSHIP VENUES 
"We allow the venues to reach a bigger market while the customer enjoys the comfort of having township food delivered to their doorstep," Qwabe wrote on his Facebook page. The mission behind Order Kasi is to deliver delicious food with a strong focus on empowering both the township restaurants and its economy.
