There’s far more to Valentine’s Day than just romantic dinners. From silent discos on the beach and family markets to tufting workshops and scuba diving sessions, Cape Town has plenty of ways to spend the day. Here are 14+ Valentine’s Day ideas to explore across the city. Some are free!

EXHIBIT TOUR FOR R75

Long March to Freedom, the exhibition with life-size statues of heroes involved in the South African freedom struggle, is offering a two-for-one deal. For R75, you and a plus one get a tour, free glass of bubbly or grape juice, and chocolates. The tour will be love-themed and share the stories of couples like the Sisulus and Mandelas. 3-COURSE DINNER AT A COCKTAIL BAR 

At fable, your welcome drink will be their best-selling cocktail, the one with the paintbrush, which will be served red if taken and green if you’re single. The dinner also includes a starter garden bowl or pork belly, steak or line fish for mains, and a red velvet basque cheesecake to share.

COOKING CLASS WITH MASTERCHEF WINNER 

MasterChef SA winner Shawn Godfrey will lead this cooking workshop at Makers Landing where guests learn how to make a million-dollar mac and cheese with a cowboy butter plankie steak. The session starts with a welcome cocktail and canapés, and ends with Shawn serving his famous malva pudding that won him the MasterChef finals.

SCUBA DIVING AT TWO OCEANS 

The Two Oceans Aquarium Dive School lets couples take the plunge together with a unique underwater adventure. Choose between a PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience for beginners or an Adventure Dive for certified divers, including a free photo package valued at R700.

TUFTING WORKSHOP ON BREE STREET 

At these creative workshops, you can make your own tufted wall hangings, cushions, or small rugs. Guests can take home their finished piece, and the studio provides all tools, including tufting guns, yarns, and frames. Perfect for an unconventional date or friends day out.

ITALIAN DINNER AT FILINI

Filini, on the ground floor of Radisson Hotel Cape Town Foreshore, is hosting a romantic Italian dinner to share. The evening includes an antipasti platter, ribeye steak, margarita pizza, panzanella salad, shoestring fries, a trio of desserts, and a complimentary glass of bubbles.

SILENT DISCO ON THE BEACH 

Celebrate with a sunset silent disco on the sand at Milk on the Beach. This feel-good evening invites you to dance under the sky with wireless headphones, all in a playful pink-and-red dress code. Milk on the Beach will open for an early dinner before the silent disco.

CLASSICAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra will present, for the 5th year, the Franschhoek Chamber Music Festival. There will be multiple daily concerts with string and piano ensembles. The festival offers ticket options per concert or a full weekend pass, with additional masterclasses and artist meet-and-greet sessions.

SOCIAL LION’S HEAD HIKE 

Anyone is invited to The Social Pit’s hike at Signal Hill: Single, taken, or somewhere in between. The hike will be two to three kilometres, suitable for moderate fitness levels, and will include  light refreshments.

FREE MARKET IN THE PARK

Table View’s biggest community market, located at Echium Park, will have craft stalls, artisanal food vendors, and live music. Visitors can expect products like handmade jewellery, home décor, and gourmet snacks. Entry is free and there are shaded seating areas and picnic spots.

HIGH TEA IN A GARDEN FOR UNDER R200

The high tea in Emmanuel Anglican Church gardens will have a selection of finger sandwiches, pastries, and desserts. Tables are set outdoors with shaded seating and there are lovely photo spots in the gardens.

WE LOVE SUMMER: VALENTINE’S EDITION 

This is We Love Summer’s last festival of the season. It’ll be at Cabo Beach Club with DJs like Locnville and Switzerland’s Joseph, with genres ranging from electro-pop and house to amapiano. Expect cocktails, beach games, sunset views over the ocean and light food vendors on site.
