The mini 7de Laan set is complete with fire station, shops and even a farm
Located in Vyfer Street in De Kelders, overlooking the ocean, Coenie and Christa Van Dyk’s backyard has become a must-see tourist attraction for all 7de Laan fans. The couple from Gaansbaai have dedicated many years to building this miniature version of the popular South African TV show, 7de Laan’s set. One of the CapeTownMagazine.com team went to check it out, and took some pictures to share with you.
IMPECCABLE DETAIL
The buildings, which all stand at about knee height, have some of the most charming details, our colleague told us. When you stoop to look through the shop windows, you'll spot garments and other products on display inside. Peek into the hospital windows and you'll see tiny patients.
According to an interview with The Daily Voice, the Van Dyks began this project around 15 years ago, when Coenie retired from his farming career. “He does it out of love for people and to give them pleasure,” Christa told The Daily Voice. This love for craft is evident everywhere you look, from the tiny churches to the life-like farm complete with tiny animals such as pigs with their piglets and miniature tractors.
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
The couple’s handiwork can be seen at their home in De Kelders. No entrance fee is charged, and even if you aren’t a 7de Laan fan, this gorgeous project is bound to fill you with joy.
