Sexy ambassador of soul heads to Mzansi shores for two December concerts
Honorary rainbow nation citizen and Grammy Award-winning RnB artist Maxwell returns to South Africa in December 2013 to seduce audiences with his soulful compilations, sensual jams and, of course, smouldering good looks. Once famous for his signature afro and monochromatic suit, the now clean-cut but no less smoking hot American singer-songwriter is confirmed to perform live in concert at GrandWest in Cape Town on Thursday, 5 December and at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg on Saturday, 7 December 2013.
Though the 1.8m-tall, baritone-voiced performer carved out a niche for himself globally with the neo-soul hits off his 1996 platinum-selling debut album “Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite”, it was in South Africa that he kick-started the second leg of his career after a significant hiatus.
Calling Mzansi his lucky charm, the RnB crooner gave a modest crowd at the 2008 Manguang African Cultural Festival in Bloemfontein a preview performance of tracks off the first disc of the soon-to-be-released trilogy “BLACKSummer’sNight”. Soon after, the 2009 album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, won two Grammy awards and was deemed one of the most critically acclaimed works of the year.
Now, Maxwell voyages back to his land of luck to christen the second disc of the trilogy (set to be released in the near future) with performances before, what he hopes are, packed houses.
