The Cape Town Jazz Orchestra, under the leadership of jazz maestro Abdullah Ibrahim and managing director Alvin Dyers, will be playing in a rare city performance

Cape Town is getting another chance to see one of its legendary jazz musicians, Abdullah Ibrahim, formerly known as Dollar Brand.

The Abdullah Ibrahim Trio (USA), together with Alvin Dyers and the Cape Town Jazz Orchestra, will put on what is sure to be one of the best musical evenings of the year.

In a statement sent while on tour abroad, Dr Ibrahim thanked Dr Pallo Jordan, minister of arts and culture, for funding the Cape Town Jazz Orchestra.

“My hope is that musicians and audiences alike will appreciate and support this project – the first one ever in our fragmented cultural history,” he said.

“We dedicate the November 1 Gala Concert to all our great masters… Kippie Moeketsi, Peter Apollis, General Duze, Willie Max, Jimmy Adams, Henry February, Otto, Tallie Bruce, Tabu Machelle, Caleb Ndimande, Boycie Gwele… and all the unsung ones.”
