Cap Classique and Champagne Festival in Franschhoek

Pop the corks, fill the flutes and celebrate 'The Magic of Bubbles' of South Africa's best Cap Classique in Franschhoek

It’s all happening at the Franschhoek Nedbank Cap Classique and Champagne Festival, on the weekend of December 9th and 10th, when the finest of South Africa’s Cap Classique and French Champagne will bubble over in the country’s Gourmet Capital.

The Bubbly Festival presents the highest number of Cap Classiques and Champagnes ever offered to the South African public at one venue – 62 in total (29 Champagnes and 33 Cap Classiques).

And what a venue it will be – a stylishly-decorated, open-sided grand marquee will grace the lawns in the heart of the town.

The bubbly stalls will be intermingled with a wide variety of food stands where some of Franschhoek’s leading restaurants will be offering specially-prepared delicacies to enjoy with bubbles.

And outside, visitors can relax at parasol-topped tables and chairs.

Highly-acclaimed Champagnes such as Bollinger, Billecart Salmon, Mumm, Laurent Perrier, Perrier Jouët, Taittinger and Veuve Clicquot; and Cap Classiques, including Graham Beck, Krone, Pierre Jourdan, Môreson, Pongrácz, Simonsig and Villiera will be on offer to festival-goers.

No longer perceived as a drink reserved for special occasions, but a chic replacement for the conventional alcoholic beverage, bubbly’s popularity is spurting forth with panache.

Some of the delicious food that will be available include:

• Reuben's Pickled oyster and tuna tartare trifle with trout roe
• Le Quartier Français' Oyster, green olive and vanilla brûlée
• Bread & Wine's Truffle and Champagne saucisson sec
• Monneaux's Duck liver parfait
• Haut Cabrière's Fresh oysters with pickled cucumber
• Topsi's Fresh trout seared with ripe peaches in truffle oil
• Boschendal's famous brandy snaps filled with cream
• Grande Provence’s Vanilla pannacotta served with Champagne
• Champagne corks filled with crème de Champagne
• Beluga caviar blinis

In true Franschhoek fashion, the entire village is expected to bubble over with people, ambience and shimmering splendour.

So come along, sip the fizz of sophistication and style as Franschhoek comes alive with: vintage cars, music, beautiful people and, of course, the ultimate in cuisine.

Tickets to this great event costs R135 and can be purchased at the door upon arrival. You will get a champagne flute and book of bubbly tasting vouchers upon purchase of your ticket.

The festival lasts from noon to sunset on the 9th and 10th of December, so you really can make a day of this great event.

Molo Says: “Franschhoek is about an hour’s drive from Cape Town and boasts with some lovely places to stay overnight.
