Blue flags for five Durban beaches
Umhlanga Rocks Main Beach and South Beach amongst the best, cleanest, and most beautiful beaches in South Africa.
Five beaches in Durban were given Blue Flag status at the annual Blue Flag ceremony held at Kelly Beach, Port Alfred, in the Eastern Cape by Deputy Environmental Affairs and Tourism Minister Joyce Mabudafhasi.A blue flag is an international annual award given to beaches that meet standards in the areas of safety, amenities, cleanliness and environmental standards.
Umhlanga Rocks Main Beach, South Beach, Anstey's Beach on the Bluff, the Bay of Plenty and Addington Beach were given the blue flag. The event marked the beginning of the department's National Marine Week celebration.
eThekwini Deputy Mayor Logie Naidoo said it was an honour for Durban beaches to be granted the status.
