Have a whale of a time in Hermanus

Walker Bay and Western Cape welcome Southern Right Whales and Whale Watchers from all over the World

For the next three months, dozens of mega-ton whales will entertain tens of thousands of people in the area of Hermanus with their breaches and sky-hops, deep dives and flipper flops.

As early as August there were 63 whales in Walker Bay. To see the whales, one can join a trip with for instance Southern Right Charters. But also from the cliffs at Hermanus or the Kelder one can easily spot Southern Right Whales, as this species is famous coming close to the shore.

Take a picnic, blanket and binoculars and enjoy the whales frolicking, breaching, and flipping their tails as close as 20 meters from the shore. Or come to Hermanus in the first week of September to experience the whale festival. You can spot whales until the end of December.
