What does 67 minutes for Mandela mean to you? For us, it’s about having a “DNA-changing impact through Moments of Joy” and doing it with our partners, special communities - and you.

FREE MADIBA-THEMED TOUR 

Long March to Freedom, the heritage park with 100 bronze statues of struggle history figures, is offering a free guided tour from 12:00 to 13:07. Outside of those 67 minutes, Mandela-themed tours run all day for R75. And if you snap a photo with his statue, tag @longmarchtofreedom and use #MandelaLMTF on Instagram, you could win a hamper worth R500.

CARE BAGS FOR PETS

At ARO (Animal Rescue Organisation), you can help to pack care bags for pets in need. There’ll be hands-on stations for all ages, a tour of ARO’s facilities, music to keep spirits high, and snacks and refreshments.

SILENT DISCO: DANCE FOR A CAUSE

Oryx Desert Salt and Secret Sunrise are hosting a silent disco. You’ll dance with wireless headphones then make over 800 sandwiches for kids in need. All proceeds will go to the Ukama Community Foundation, which feeds over 700 preschool children daily in Masiphumulele and Capricorn. With your ticket you’ll qualify to enter a raffle and you can have a post-event swim if the weather allows.

BURGERS: BUY ONE & GIVE ONE

Ground Culture is doing a give-back initiative called Buy 1, Give 1 Burgers. For every burger ticket purchased, you’ll receive a meal from their café in Observatory, and they will donate a burger from their food truck directly to someone in need of a meal.

HELP PACK FOOD PARCELS 

FoodForward SA is addressing food insecurity this Mandela Day by recovering surplus food from stores and suppliers and distributing it to organisations that support vulnerable communities. You can help by packing essential food parcels at Century City Conference Hall. Choose a shift at 9:30am or 1pm this Friday.

MAKE SOUP WITH JENNY MORRIS

Salesian Institute Youth Projects, with guest Jenny Morris, is hosting a soup and sandwich day. You’ll prepare soup and make sandwiches, with all food and donations supporting at-risk youth through the Institute’s skills development programmes. Bring a chopping board and fresh veggies to add to the pot, or any non-perishable items to donate.

FOOD FOR VULNERABLE SENIORS

Ikamva Labantu is committed to fighting poverty and deprivation in our township communities. You can help by donating essential items like canned food, rice, maize meal, cooking oil, sugar, and coffee to their head office. These will be distributed by Ikamva’s dedicated caregivers, who provide crucial support to some of Cape Town’s most vulnerable seniors.
