Bottoms up for J.C. Le Roux’s new brut

Bubbly winemaker, Elunda Basson’s latest offering is just what the sparkling market was missing. An entry-level quaffer, this brut N/V has got just enough meat on its bones to stand up to rich dishes. It’s a blend of 90 percent pinot noir and 10 percent chardonnay, which spent 18 months on the lees.

Pair with a steamed crayfish tail topped with a poached egg and hollandaise or simply take it down to your local park (we recommend the Green Point Park) and enjoy with a picnic. Why not try it as an aperitif at your next braai? Match with yellowtail cubes rubbed with ginger and honey, then grilled on skewers over the coals.

Interestingly The House of J.C. Le Roux was the first cellar dedicated entirely to the craft of making sparkling wine in South Africa.  Head down to their tasting room to try their new bubbly for yourself. You can also take a tour of the cellar to see firsthand how sparkling and Méthode Cap Classique is made, plus the tour ends off with a sabrage demonstration (the act of using a sword to pop the neck of a bottle).
