Round up the troops and create a sandy masterpiece at the annual Sandcastle Competition on Hout Bay Beach on Saturday, 12 March 2016.
Teams made up of kids of all ages or adults who love a bit of bucket and spade action themselves are invited to compete for the title of the most impressive sandcastle in order to raise funds for educational bursaries to the Hout Bay Valley Pre-Primary School and for essential therapeutic interventions for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Celebrity guest judges have the impossible task of choosing the winners and awarding prizes to victors in each category. Categories include family teams, teams of adults, teams of children, corporate teams and the Sonwabile sponsored teams made up of children from Hout Bay.
Though construction of elaborate sand structures is the main business of the day, there will be plenty of fun activities for the entire family to make the most of like a jumping castle and a magician with some sweet tricks up his sleeve. Those not keen to get creative early on a Saturday can come out to see the sandcastle architects at work and grab something tasty from the various food and drink stalls available. Live music from a DJ will keep everyone entertained as participants eagerly build their masterpieces. Look out for the breakdance performances as well as an interactive dance class teaching some hip moves to boogie down to.
