Edelweiss Air starts seasonal flights to Cape Town

If you thought the recession would just mean fewer flights to-and-from Cape Town you may want to think again.
Ashton’s Restaurant at the luxury Greenways Hotel in Bishops Court provided a setting for the launch of new flights to-and-from Cape Town to Zurich via Edelweiss Air.
Each year from 25 October until 1 May, Edelweiss Air flies twice weekly to Cape Town from Zurich and from Zurich to Cape Town. Flights land in Cape Town and take off for Zurich every Tuesday and Friday weekly.
With over 45 connective flights into 60 destinations to 30 countries this means we will not only see more Swiss tourists and business travellers coming into Cape Town, but also more from other European countries.
Cape Town can expect to see more tourists from surrounding countries like Germany, Italy and France and more specifically cities such as Berlin, Rome and Milan. This also means more opportunity for South Africans to explore these destinations as well as renowned locations in Switzerland such as Lake Geneva, Zermatt and St. Moritz.
Economy class offers 23kg luggage as well as free sports equipment to the weight of 15kg – with a maximum length of 140cm. This means Edelweiss Air is perfect for golfers, divers and even kite surfer—their kite surfing equipment, golfing bags and diving equipment get a free flight ticket.
More information on Edelweiss Air

Flying with Airbus a320 and a330-200’s the planes contain 30 business class seats and 255 normal seats. The airline company is winner of the 2011 Swiss Travel Star award for short and medium flights for the 11th consecutive year, and 3rd for long haul just behind Emirates and Singapore airlines.

Interesting fact: Remember if you are flying to Switzerland with Edelweiss Air and you recognise their flower logo, it is their un-official national flower, and please also note you’re not allowed to pick it if you see it.
