The best African hockey nations are coming together at Stellenbosch University for the AFCON African Road to Tokyo hockey tournament from 12 – 18 August 2019. Men’s and women’s teams will battle it out to represent their countries at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.
WHO’S PLAYING?
There’ll be eight men's teams from South Africa, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Uganda and Zimbabwe. The women’s tournament will consist of seven teams, with all but Egypt from the men’s tournament participating.
SA men’s Coach, Garreth Ewing and SA Women’s coach, Rob van Ginkel, have been working hard assembling the best national squads possible.

Due to Nigeria and Uganda experiencing Visa problems amongst others, the fixtures have been changed:

THE VENUE
The tournament takes place at Stellenbosch University hockey field, PSO Club House, Coetzenberg, Stellenbosch. Teams will be playing on an artificial surface and you can watch the action from the spectator stands.

REFRESHMENTS
There’ll be food vendors, a tuck-shop and beer tent. Fill up on pizza, toasted sandwiches, warm chips, boerie rolls, burgers, vetkoek and mince, pancakes and more.

This event is organised by the South African Hockey Association (SAHA) and Western Province Hockey Union (WPHU).
