Urban Farming Beginner’s Workshop

Learn about permaculture and build your own container garden with this unique gardening course

It may seem that in the city sprawl there’s little room for growing your own greens and even less place for pottering, but on the contrary, the Urban Farming Beginner’s Workshop is here to prove that there are ample ways to get your ‘green on’ at home – be it on a balcony, in an alley or even atop a roof!

The three-hour session, which goes down on Saturday, 13 September in the city centre area of Gardens (how apt, right?), will give attendees the chance to better understand the basics of permaculture, discover how urban farming can transform the city and learn how to create a container garden .

The workshop will be led by local expert Tarryn Rice, who is the owner of Wall Gardens – a company that designs vertical succulent gardens of various sizes that can transform any blank wall into a work of art. Tarryn also co-founded OwnGrown – a business that creates and maintains organic, sustainable urban food gardens using permaculture principles.

Under Tarryn’s guidance, attendees will try their hand at creating their own container garden and will ultimately learn about the relevant positioning, watering, feeding, harvesting and pruning techniques that will ensure optimum plant growth.

The course is hosted by Curiosity Campus, a learning community of part-time instructors committed to providing quality design, technology and business-related workshops and short courses.
