The Tyger Run/Walk at Tyger Valley Shopping Centre

Start your weekend right with a fun-filled charity run out in the sunshine in the suburbs

Rearing for a little exercise on a Saturday morning? Then the Tyger Run/Walk is perfect for you. Bring your family and friends along, lace up your running shoes and remember that you can rest on Sunday. Tyger Valley Centre in Bellville is the starting point for this year’s event, taking place on Saturday, 27 February 2016.

Running races isn’t for everyone, so why not walk? You can choose to walk or run in any of the distance categories, with the range going from a half marathon (21.1km) to a relaxed 5km. The half marathon starts at 6am and is no piece of cake, so this one isn’t for the faint-hearted or the unfit. The 10km race starts at 6:30am and the 5km kicks off at 7:30am.

The event starts nice and early, so enjoy the rest of your Saturday treating yourself (and others) to some lunch and shopping at Tyger Valley Centre after the prize giving at 9:30am. You never know, you could even be the winner of one of the mysterious prizes being awarded on the day… or just go all out and race to win!

The cut-off time for all the races is 9am, so keep that in mind and make sure you finish before the sun gets too hot. Maybe give the 10km a try if you are feeling adventurous, and remember that there is no shame in walking. If you have the kiddies with you, the 5km is probably a better choice for the whole family to enjoy. Remember to bring sunscreen, a hat, water and a smile; all of which you’ll need on the day!

The organisers have asked that participants bring a new teddy bear with them to donate on race day. These teddies will be donated to Tygerbear, a charity that focuses on helping traumatised children and families. Soft toy donations are always welcome.
