Regardless of whether you loathe or love it, Banting is the buzzword on everyone’s lips. And now, the man behind the Real Meal Revolution, Tim Noakes, in conjunction with Karen Thomson of the Sugar Free Revolution online programme, is bringing the eating plan to the fore even more pointedly with a four-day health summit at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from Thursday, 19 to Sunday, 22 February 2015.
Named the Old Mutual Health Convention, the event will feature a bevy of international and local experts debating nutrition and the body, and eager health enthusiasts and medical professionals alike are invited to come learn more about the causes and circumstances surrounding obesity as well as the benefits and physiological underpinnings of the highly popular LCHF diet.
For those not in the know, the Banting diet was spurred on by Noakes’s bestselling Banting bible, the Real Meal Revolution. The worldwide phenomenon involves eating fewer carbohydrates while upping the intake of protein and fat. Met with controversy from health professionals, like nutritionists and dieticians, the Banting diet is nonetheless one of the most popular eating plans in South Africa in the last decade.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE 2015 OLD MUTUAL LCHF HEALTH CONVENTION IN CAPE TOWN
REAL MEAL REVOLUTION: Tim Noakes will be discussing the benefits of a LCHF diet for athletes in one talk and shedding light on what’s next for his worldwide nutrition revolution in another. Consult the programme at Lowcarbhighfatexperts.com to see when he is speaking.
HEALTH-Y DEBATES: Aside from Noakes, more than 11 qualified speakers are prepped to share their knowledge on hard-hitting health-related topics like diabetes, cholesterol and obesity. Attendees can look forward to hearing the latest opinions from acclaimed speakers, including American nutritionist Dr Michael Eades, Canadian diabetes specialist Dr Jay Wortman and famous author Zoe Harcombe, amongst others.
MEDICAL CONFERENCE: This first ever health summit aims to create a platform for medical professionals to learn as much as possible about the highly popular Banting diet, to share information about various health topics and to ultimately broaden their knowledge of nutrition and low-carb health. Do note, professionals can either opt to attend the more medically focussed first three days of the conference or all four days of the conference.
