6 immersive themes, one being the best in Africa
Looking for a fun-filled day that supports a good cause too? Then bring your gees (spirit) along to this first-time youth benefit in Cape Town’s leafy, green Maynardville Park on Saturday, 11 October 2014.
The day-long festival is at heart a music concert by the youth for the youth, but it also has a plethora of family-friendly activities on the line-up that will entertain both young and old for hours. Though aside from providing fun in the sun, the main aim of the Maynardville Youth Festival is to help empower minority youth groups and raise funds that can be ploughed back into various community youth groups.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2014 MAYNARDVILLE YOUTH FESTIVAL IN WYNBERG
MUSICAL TREATS: The youth benefit intends on entertaining patrons with a line–up of 16 performers, each of whom will come strut their stuff for eager attendees. Fans of local musos can listen to the vocal talents of 2007 SA Idol Jody Williams, crooner Hugo Nieuwoudt and many others. Laze in the park, kick back and listen to music sung for a worthy cause.
KIDS’ ACTIVITIES GALORE: This event is all about entertaining and empowering the youth, so you can bet that there will be a plethora of kid-friendly activities. Bring your little ones to get their faces painted, have their first pony ride or get wet ‘n wild on the waterslides. Alternatively, they can satisfy that need for speed on the go-karting track or climb onto the bouncy jumping castle.
SPORTING ACTIVITIES: For those old enough to remember staying out all day playing with friends, before the advent of PS4s and Xboxes, this one-day fair has a treat for you. Boeresport (farmer’s sport) challenges are set to involve the whole family in fun activities, like sack races and more. Participants will get a free beverage to keep their energy up and running during the competition. Winners take away Spur meal vouchers.
POTJIEKOS COMPETITION: A hearty meal makes for a happy tummy, and so potential potjiekos maestros will vie to win the coveted title of Potjiekos King in a heated competition. Attendees will be able to buy the delicious offerings after the winning team has been chosen. And as every festival has the perfect place to chill out, the Maynardville Youth Festival will have a beer garden that provides beverages for thirsty patrons looking for a cold one.
