ELEVEN FORTY ONE, based on a short story by James Matthews

ELEVEN FORTY ONE is based on a short story written by James Matthews about a journey in a third class carriage that comes alive with the rich cultural diversity of our city, and tells the story of the changing attitudes of society towards current affairs through poetry, spoken word, dance and music. 

The cast is from the Cape Flats, who tell these untold stories as their journey embarks 1966 and ends on the return journey in 2010 - in the new generation Metro Carriage, after the World Cup which has been won by South Africa.  

The theatrical journey is based on the interaction of various colorful characters that arrive and depart at various platforms/stations.  The story charts the changing music and fashion scenes over a period of forty five years as observed through the eyes of the two main characters, the amputee newspaper vendor and an aging artist who continues the journey in search of Utopia.  The amputee newspaper vendor provides the timeline via headlines, and the dialogue of the story is narrated by the aging artist.
