Champagne with Puccini and Friends
Listen to the astonishing vocals of Zanne Stapelberg at this aural treat of arias and acoustics
Star soprano Zanne Stapelberg will light up the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium with a selection of heart-wrenching classics that combine opera and cabaret, on Saturday, 15 August 2015. The mellifluous melodies are presented by Link to Grow – an education-oriented organisation focused on the empowerment of women.
Stapelberg has received much critical acclaim, with reviewers and industry insiders labelling her a ‘national treasure’ for her vocal abilities and captivating stage presence. At Champagne with Puccini, she will be putting her own spin on rich renditions of Puccini’s ‘Si mi chimano Mimi’ from La Boheme, Bellini’s ‘Casta Diva’ and ‘Mon Coeur’ from Delibe’s Samson & Delilah, amongst others.
Intermingled with the opera will be catchy, well-loved hits from various musical numbers that audiences are bound to recognise and long to sing along to. Stapelberg will be accompanied by pianist Elna van de Merwe – one of the country’s top performers, and the ideal complement to Stapelberg’s soulful soprano. Best of all perhaps, the concert is a fitting activity for Women’s Month as proceeds go towards assisting Link to Grow with sponsoring young children and students’ primary and tertiary education around the country.
