Once-in-a-lifetime exhibition of Esther ...
On from February to August 2024; 100+ artworks
Addiction and substance abuse are familiar topics for most, with the saying, ‘Everyone knows someone’ coming to mind, but few take the time to investigate the issues more profoundly. The Cape Town Recovery Film Festival is an opportunity for interested parties to get deeper insight into addiction and its underlying themes through the medium of movies from Thursday, 25 September until Thursday, 2 October at the Labia Theatre.
The line-up, which has been expanded since the affair’s launch last year, consists of films exploring a range of topics, including living with recovery and how alternative therapies can assist with life-long recovery, and is designed to appeal to everyone from addicts themselves to professionals to supporting friends and family members.
Some of the stellar films on the bill include How to Make Money Selling Drugs, narrated by award-winning actress Susan Sarandon, and the deeply emotional film From Addiction to Recovery, which features comedian and recovering heroin addict Russell Brand. Alternatively, for a celebrity’s outlook on addiction and recovery, check out Bob and the Monster; the film follows rock ‘n’ roll musician Bob Forrest and explores his journey as outlined by fellow rockers, like Courtney Love and Anthony Kiedis.
What’s more, many of the screenings at the Recovery Film Festival include interactive talks with the filmmakers and audience discussion after the movie.
BOOKING FOR THE RECOVERY FILM FESTIVAL AT THE LABIA THEATRE
Tickets cost R40p/p and are available online through Webtickets.co.za; alternatively, you can book a spot by calling the Labia Theatre on +27 (0) 21 424 5927. Some of the screenings are free, and those tickets can only reserved by calling the Labia Theatre.
