When one hears the word tattoo, a visual of permanent body art comes to mind. The tattoo in question here is a lot less permanent; filled with instruments, marching bands and crowds of cheering spectators.. In fact, the Cape Military Tattoo sees the South African Defence Force’s (SANDF) regiments perform instrumental numbers, dances, silent drills, gun-runs and more in celebration of the rich military history that lies within the Western Cape and surrounds at the Castle of Good Hope from Wednesday, 11 to Saturday, 14 November 2015.
This prestigious event celebrates over a decade of military excellence and, this year, will focus on honouring the men and women who served in World War I. Highlights of the night include an appearance by a sixty piece military tattoo from Pakistan and a rendition of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture with live canon fire.
Spectators can look forward to hearing some of the best military musical acts from around the province in a stunning outdoor location. The event is also expanding to include stellar international acts to diversify the line-up and bring a global flair to this well-known affair.
For those first-timers considering this year’s event, be prepared for some loud noises (after all, cannons aren’t very quiet!). The weather is usually warm and pleasant, but as everyone knows, Cape Town weather is known for being unpredictable. Please note, if the weather is a unpleasant, patrons are advised to come to the Castle of Good Hope to see whether the show has been cancelled or simply delayed.
Remember to dress warmly, bring along your camera for some happy snaps and make a night of it with your friends and family. Food stalls will be in and around the venue, so attendees can grab a bite to eat during the event.
