The Fourth Annual Elgin Chardonnay Colloquium has arrived. Again. And Chardonnay lovers will be pretty happy about that because this year it still includes plenty of the best of the grape, plus a great panel of experts local and international to tell you all about the choices, and a harvest table lunch.
It’s all happening at South Hill Vineyards in the Elgin Valley on 12 October 2019.
WHO WILL BE YOUR GUIDES?
This year, four world-renowned wine aficionados will be looking at and explaining Chardonnay trends from around the world, guiding guests through two different tastings: a showcase of 2017 Chardonnay vintages in the morning, and a blind tasting in the afternoon.
Your experts for the day are: Richard Kershaw, a winemaker based in Elgin; Cathy Marston, the owner of the International Wine Education Centre; Dan Nicholl, from the online show Dan Really Likes Wine; and Joe Wadsack, a British drinks expert and TV host.
To see the complete list of participating wine farms, Elgin and international, check out the Wines of Elgin website.
THE SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY
At 9am sharp, guests will receive a glass of welcoming bubbly (or tea/coffee if you're not into daytime drinking) and an assortment of muffins. At 9.45am the panel is introduced. From 10.45am to 1pm, the 2017 Elgin Chardonnays will be presented and tasted, and lunch will be at 1pm.
In the afternoon until 4.15 pm, the blind tasting will take place, including wines from France, New Zealand, Australia, Chile, and Argentina. After that, guests can mingle and chat with panellists, sipping beers, ciders or wine. Snacks will also be provided.
INCLUDED IN YOUR TICKET
Tickets cost R1 250 per person, which includes wine tastings, drinks, meals and snacks throughout the day.
