The popular Community Chest Carnival swirls back into Cape Town at the end of March for its annual four-day fiesta.

The event will convert the refurbished Maynardville Park in Wynberg into a veritable wonderland featuring exhilarating rides, kiddie-friendly attractions, international food and more from Wednesday, 30 March to Saturday, 2 April 2016.

With features like a skate park, vintage clothing stalls and pop-up shops, the Community Chest Carnival has something for every taste and fancy. Known for hosting food markets with traditional dishes from across the globe, from koeksisters and burgers to kroketten and authentic Italian pasta, festival-goers can also look forward to the addition of organic fare for the health-conscious as well as gourmet and yummy nosh from the range of street food trucks on site. 

This much-loved outdoor event, which started as a theatrical garden party over six decades ago in 1951, has become a family tradition in the Mother City, both for its outstanding entertainment and strong social welfare roots.

Truly embodying the concept of Ubuntu (I am because we are), the carnival, which finds its feet thanks to the efforts of volunteers, benefits numerous charities that support a wide spectrum of causes.

Do note that tickets are only available at the gate on the day and there will not be any card facilities available at the gate; select vendors will have debit/credit card machines. Costs are as follows:

There will be a police presence at the fair, and anyone found not compliant with the rules will be refused entry to or removed from the event. The following items are strictly prohibited:

• Gas canisters and aerosols over 250ml
• Airhorns (vuvuzelas)
• Fireworks and flares
• Glass
• Illegal substances
• Laser equipment/pens
• Megaphones
• Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
• Sky (Chinese) lanterns
• Independent sound systems
• Tabards/high visibility jackets
