Care for a brew, Bru?

Brew Mobile Coffeeshop is starting somewhere to get anywhere

---

2022: Get coffee in the middle of nowhere on the R44.

---

When an idea comes to life, it’s good. When an idea becomes reality, it is even better. Lara Morrison and Sandi Bellairs dreamed of a mobile coffeeshop that can serve anywhere: at fairs, events, you name it. But to get anywhere you have to start somewhere. Opened in December 2010 at the ground floor of the Clock Tower, Brew Mobile Coffee quickly became the V&A Waterfront's coffee-to-go-station of choice. In April 2011, Brew moved to Long Street number 2.

Lara Morrison operates the business-side of Brew Mobile whilst Sandi is the foodie expert. Every morning you'll find Sandi here for a coffee and a chat. She is a qualified chef and has worked in the restaurant and catering industry for over 10 years. The Brew-team is small and like a family. Barista Webster is good at flirting so he's clearly chosen the right line of work.

"The guys from Deluxe Coffeeworks advised us and helped us to set things up. We love their coffee. They’re coffee scientists," says Sandi, "We wanted to be South African and since locals call each other 'bru' we decided to call our little coffeeshop 'brew'." Coffee is brew. Bru and brew go hand in hand and "When we answer the phone, we say 'Hi Brew'."

Besides delicious coffee you can nibble delectable snacks like designer cupcakes from Denise’s Delights in Sea Point including bar one cupcakes, lemon meringue cupcakes and cheescake (all R16), muffins and for savoury brus, fresh gourmet rolls with a vegetarian or meat filling (roast beef with caramalized onions, chicken mayo etc) for between R18 and R24.

Brew Mobile coffees are reasonably priced for Cape Town and you'll get an espresso for R10 or a cappuccino for R15. The surrounding offices support the Brew Mobile coffeeshop since we all know Capetonians appreciate a good quality cuppa.

A good idea that became reality, we say. But remember, the idea is: Brew Mobile coffeeshops can be put anywhere. This one may be the flagship, but it's only the beginning!
