Places To Watch Soccer In Your Hood
From chilled pub vibes to intense stadium experiences
Last updated: Wednesday, 13 July 2022
August is soccer month, with the PSL, English Premier League and other major European soccer leagues kicking off their new season. We’ve rounded up our pick of spots – from the unexpected to super-cool new places – where you can catch the action.
WATCH YOUR FAVOURITE GAME AT THIS GERMAN BAR
Any big sporting event – with a preference for soccer but boxing, F1 and rugby, too – will be screened on a projector and four 40-inch TV screens. It’s a vibey venue to watch any game, plus it’s one of the only places in Cape Town where you can watch the German football league. Enjoy cocktails or craft beer while watching your favourite game at Café Extrablatt.

VIEW OF BIG SCREEN FROM ALL SIDES
If you're looking for somewhere to catch the game, the Bundesliga in particular, there's no better place than this urban forest with a taste for burgers, beers and good times on tap. The big screen is visible throughout the main section of the restaurant, as well as the outdoor deck. And, with a variety of burgers (meat, vegetarian and vegan), craft beers and cocktails on hand, why wouldn't you want to cheer for your team at Robin Hood Burger and Grill?

WATCH THE GAME AND PLAY A GAME
Buckley’s in Bellville is where you want to be for the big games, especially because they frequently run drinks and food specials on game days. There are also slot machines and pool tables and you can try your own shots at goal on the foosball tables.

99 BEERS AND FOOTIE ON THE BIG SCREEN
Big-screen TVs, a projector, 25 brews on tap, 99 bottled beers (many that you can’t find anywhere else in the city), finger food and a great vibe... catch the game at Beerhouse on Long Street.
RIGHT IN THE ACTION
Chill on a bean bag and clink a glass with the cool kids that congregate here. This laidback pub-and-grub spot does delicious and budget-friendly (but filling) food, like cheese fries and veggie enchiladas. Pull up a comfy couch and grab a few mates to join you at the Forex Bar.
PIZZA, BEER AND FOOTIE
Home of the Cape Town Liverpool Fan Club, this trendy sports bar is kitted out with five 42-inch screens and a mega 250-inch projector screen, with benches lined up like stadium seats. With four different beers on tap, and a chef making everything from grilled meat to stacked large pizza, it’s no wonder fans are flocking to the Premium Sports bar.
ACTION, GRUB, NEW FRIENDS
With large screens in the bar and restaurant area, as well as a giant projector, Pirates Steakhouse & Pub in Plumstead is the go-to sports-viewing spot for locals looking for good grub and a cold lager. The friendly atmosphere and food (steaks, burgers, pork belly and juicy ribs) make this an easy choice for those looking to cheer on their favourite team. Expect a lot of celebrating after the match. Ask about the Privateers Club if you want to save some cash.
JOIN THE LOCALS
Pisto's – a trendy bar and lounge in bustling Gugulethu – is a favourite with locals. Kick back on the leather lounge suite in front of the big-screen TV to take in all the soccer action. Once the game is over, stick around and celebrate well into the night with the influx of partygoers.
VIEW THE MATCHES AND THE SCENERY
Doodles Beachfront has a restaurant, bar and the largest outside seating area in Blouberg. This, along with a panoramic view of Table Mountain, creates an awesome setting for watching soccer. After the game you can catch live music while the sun sets across the bay.
Monday Madness and Wacky Wednesday at Café Extrablatt.
Pick your sporting poison at the Cape Town Cricket Sixes.
And then there are loads of cool places to have an epic get-together or party with friends in our selection of unique and unexpected function venues.
