Acrobranch Tree Top Adventure Park in Constantia

The Cape Town home of action-packed aerial quests for kids and adults of all ages

If your little one is an aspiring Indiana Jones or Lara Croft, then the Acrobranch Tree Top Adventure Park in Constantia is a must-visit outdoor activity venue in Cape Town.  Situated in the Mother City’s most proximal Winelands suburb, the establishment - there are three other facilities in South Africa - offers thrill-seeking children (and adults) the perfect escapade.

The adventure park, which was established at the end of 2012, comprises a series of aerial obstacle courses where a variety of zip lines, Tarzan swings, nets, bridges and other fun apparatuses take participants from one majestic blue gum tree to the next.

“The experience is unique because we aren’t just a zip lining park.  We have obstacles in and amongst them [zip lines], and that is what makes the experience different and exciting for both kids and adults.  It is also great for children who want to overcome personal fears, such as heights, or it can help them boost their confidence, “says Park Manager Enock Joel.

And, as Enock points out, in addition to being bucket loads of sky-high fun, the activities assist in honing a number of developmental skills in children.

“The various obstacles and courses definitely assist with the development of gross motor skills, fine motor skills and, of course, hand-eye coordination.”  Also, while it is undoubtedly fun and beneficial for the little ones, parents and other grown-ups are also more than welcome to join in on the fun as well.

The park integrates the courses naturally into the environment using eco-friendly methods, such as ‘hugging’, as opposed to drilling or cutting into the trees.

And in order to make the outdoor activity fun for all ages, the thoughtful folks behind Acrobranch rigged courses according to three difficulty levels:

Acro-Twigs
This route is specifically designed for the littlest of adventurers. It boasts two zip lines, swinging bridges and an assortment of unique obstacles that are close to the ground so mom and dad can lend a watchful eye and some encouragement. It’s also the perfect warm-up course for those who are reluctant to leave the ground, allowing monkeys-in-the-making to find balance and a sense of adventure before sailing through the tree tops.

Length: 9 obstacles
Highest Platform: 1.8metres
Longest Zip Line: 13metres
Highlight: The Scooter
Restrictions: 3 years old +

Tree Hugger
The green course is a tangle of adventure that will have wee ones leaping across planks, flying on the Tarzan swing, tackling the trapeze and soaring across zip lines. It’s a big step up from the yellow track and splits into both “easy” and “hard” routes to cater for all sorts of adventures. The yellow course is included in this one.

Length: 19 obstacles
Highest Platform: 7metres
Longest Zip Line: 60metres
Highlight: The Big Zip
Restrictions: 7-year-olds and older

Swinging Tarzan
The blue course is definitely the most challenging (or fun, depending on how you look at it)! While it’s not much higher than the green course, it’s a mangle of obstacles designed to test both coordination and courage. The rope bridge and criss-cross tangle may look easy enough from the ground, but it’s a whole other matter when you’re caught in them! This course is also a great option for adults who want to get in on the action.  It’s is also a popular option for team-building activities in Cape Town.
(Includes the yellow and the green course)

Length: 32 obstacles
Highest platform: 8metres
Longest Zip Line: 60metres
Highlight:
The Criss Cross
Restrictions: height of 1.4m +

But before taking on any of the above, you are first fitted into harnesses and are taken to the training section where a qualified guide demonstrates all the necessary safety procedures.  The Acrobranch guides are trained to help climbers down from any situations that may prove overwhelming and also offer support and encouragement to any little explorer in need of a confidence boost.

So both children and adults who want to expend some energy and channel their inner-Tarzan can be certain that Acrobranch’s airborne adventures will certainly make for an adrenaline-packed day!

Do note: Every customer must fill in an indemnity form and must be harnessed so arriving 15 minutes prior to the start of the adventure is advised.  This will also ensure enough time for the training leg.

Tip:  The tree top adventures are a great activity for birthdays, teambuilding and bachelor/ettes. The establishment can host up to 60 eager explorers at a time, Please note that no outside food or drinks may be brought onto the property, and please contact Acrobranch for any catering requirements. Visit www.acrobranch.co.za for more details.

The Bill: Taking on the Acro-twigs will set you back R100 p/p, a combination of the Acro-twigs and Tree Hugger costs R140 p/p and the ultimate experience of conquering all three is a wallet-friendly R180 p/p. Bookings can be made via the website www.acrobranch.co.za or contact +27 (0)86 999 0369
