Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts March / April 2012

The ultimate Cape Town Sunday experience is back this every Sunday this March / April


Summer concerts at Kirstenbosch Gardens are a definite highlight on the Cape Town events calendar. And don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out why with SA’s favourite music acts and one on the sprawling lawns of one of the world’s top three Botanical Gardens.

Sunday 4th March - The Blues Broers featuring Albert Frost:

The Blues Broers ride again! Donning their trademark black-and-white garb and shades, they will be performing with a full horn section, as well as a chorus of female backing singers.

Sunday 11th March – Goldfish:

Dominic Peters and David Poole’s combination of jazzy house beats and searing live performances has seen them launch head first into the worldwide Dance Music consciousness.

Sunday 18th March – Freshlyground:

South Africa’s most popular Afro beat, funk and folk band is made up of seven musicians from South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Fronted by the diminutive but dynamic Zolani Mahola, the band exudes a live performance energy that has been the bedrock of their success.


Sunday 25th March – Hugh Masekela:

Born in Witbank in 1939, Hugh Masekela is one of the greatest musicians ever to come out of South Africa. His international jazz career spans over more than five decades and he has played with just about every top star you can think of.

Sunday 1st April - Hot Water and Wrestlerish:

Hot Water creates uplifting and authentic South African music, expressed through a dynamic group of musicians from very diverse backgrounds .Their music incorporates elements of traditional African music with folk, blues and indie-pop rock.

Melodic rock band Wrestlerish was voted one of the most important SA bands in the last decade in 2010 by the Sunday Times, with their first single Bodies of Water already peaking on charts.

Sunday 8 April - The Parlotones - Celebrating 100 years of Kirstenbosch Gardens!

They are known for their electric, polished stage performances delivered against the backdrop of their deftly crafted and darkly romantic lyrics.

Their sound, described as alternative in their formative years and influenced by the likes of Muse, Radiohead and the Smiths, has evolved substantially becoming more refined and focused with each album.
