The Annual West Coast Spring Fest in Saldanha Bay

Need a break? Saldanha Bay is perfect this time of year!

The third edition of the annual West Coast Spring Festival is back on Saturday, 7 and Sunday, 8 October 2017 at the Saldanha Sports Grounds. While we know that Saldanha Bay is a little bit further out of the city than Melkbosstrand or Bloubergstrand (120kms to be exact), but the beauty of this quaint town will certainly make it worth your while!

The organiser (and founder) of the festival, Cassandra Pedro, started the West Coast Spring Festival because she believed that “small business owners and entrepreneurs do not get enough support from the local community. The event is all about the ‘little guys’; entrepreneurs coming together to celebrate one another’s unique talents.” Since is inception in 2015, the festival has grown. In the first year, it attracted around 450 people, in the second year that number skyrocketed to nearly 1800. This year they are hoping to draw more than 3000 people over the weekend event.

Families can expect a smorgasbord of exciting activities, get ready for everything from face painting and bouncy castles to paintballing and target shooting. Not only does the festival cater for children, Cassandra has made a conscious effort to ensure that children of all ages will be kept busy all day long. While the youngins are having a blast, parents can relax and enjoy the stunning atmosphere that this community-driven festival offers. The market will feature over 80 stalls run by local foodies, crafter, creators and bakers, so you are sure to find something delicious to nibble on and something lovely to take home as a momento.

Look out for live music throughout the event, a demonstration by the Langebaan-based Air Force, various carnival rides, a beer tent highlighting local breweries, and even a Pink Drive for cancer awareness. Not to mention the spot-prizes and giveaways, of which there will be many. You could bag yourself some amazing prizes simply for attending the festival.

Entrance to the festival can be paid at the gate in cash. On Saturday, 7 October 2017 the entrance for adults is R35/p, and R20/p for children and pensioners. On Sunday, 8 October 2017, the entrance fee for adults is R25/p and R15/p for children and adults. Little kiddies under three can enter for free all weekend.
