Note that, sadly, veggie eatery Dear Me has closed its doors. But we know of something new coming here soon
Note: Dear Me has closed down, but we know of a something exciting and new coming in this space. For now, check out this choice-picked selection of vegetarian restaurants in Cape Town and the upstairs Tjing Tjing Rooftop Bar. Are you a diabetic? Lactose or wheat intolerant? Can’t stand the thought of another boring restaurant experience where you’re pretty much stuck with the salad options?
Well, Dear Me in Longmarket Street, not only caters to your wants, but is positively imaginative about creating dishes that excite diners as well as being sensitive to their needs.
Picture almond milk ice cream for dessert for one. Most menu items have a lactose free, vegan, wheat intolerant, diabetic, celiac or vegetarian option. If that’s still not up to snuff, head chef, Vanessa Marx is more than accommodating and says that the concept of Dear Me is to make you feel welcome and will happily adapt dishes to suit tastes and needs.
On top of that, the converted three-storey 181-year-old home is filled with eye-candy; the inspired décor is fresh and inviting. After lunch head upstairs to Tjing Tjing, the restaurant’s bar. All dark wooden beams and red leather, this is just the spot to people watch during cocktail hour.
