Go beyond the conventional cheese and wine pairing experience
When thinking food and drink pairings, our minds tend to race to cheese and wine. But in Cape Town there lies a wealth of other pairings to uncover. These sweet treats and savoury snacks pair beautifully:
CHEESECAKE AND WINE
Sauvignon Blanc paired with a creamy lemon tart. Chardonnay with berry cheesecake. Count us in please. These are the flavours you can expect to pair and taste at Eikendal Vineyards in Stellenbosch, with cookies for the kids. Have your cake, and eat it as you enjoy cheetah viewings. There’s also rides through the vineyards and a play area for kids.
Cost: R80/p until April 2018
Situated on the R44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West | +(0)21 855 1422 | info@eikendal.co.za
CUPCAKES AND COCKTAILS
These make the cutest combination. La Belle Bistro and Bakery in Camps Bay is home to the awesome paired selection of orange blossom cupcake with peach Bellini, chocolate sundae cupcake with espresso martini or the loved lemon meringue with a mojito.
Cost: From R80 to R110 per treat

FUDGE AND WINE
Satisfy your sweet tooth at Avontuur Wine Estate in Somerset West with fudge and wine pairing. Guests can savour award-winning red and white wines paired with Basilei handcrafted confectionary fudges, a range consisting of chocolate, cocoa, caramel and dark chocolate flavours all available at this wine estate.
Cost: R60/p

WHALES, WINE AND WORS
This ingenious combination by Wine Flies brings together boutique wine and one of our most loved snack, droewors. Based in Hermanus, this experience includes whale-watching from the shoreline. Transport, food and drinks are inclusive for this tour.
Cost: The whale, wine and wors tour costs R820/p, which includes all tastings, food pairings and lunch.
