On 24 November, thousands of bikers take to the roads with toys strapped to their bikes and make their way to Killarney Raceway. There they give these toys, as well as funds and gifts donated by spectators, to local orphanages, children's homes, hospitals and other safe spaces. The event starts at 10:30am from various venues, and ends at 5pm.
THE GOAL IS TO RAISE MORE THAN R200 000
This year, the initiative aims to raise at least R200 000 in aid of Zanokhanyo Children's Safety Home in Khayelitsha after it was damaged by fire in November 2018. If the Toy Run raises more than R200 000, the additional funds will be used to buy toys and support other homes and orphanages.
HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THE TOY RUN
There are three ways in which the public can participate and make a difference. Firstly, strap some toys to your bike and ride to Killarney Raceway (start points are either the Grand Parade or GrandWest); secondly, stop by Killarney to drop off your toy or donate; and finally, buy a ticket to the events arena, where there'll be live music, comedy, and food and drinks stalls.
Participating in the bike ride or dropping into Killarney Racetrack to donate are free. To enter the Events Arena, tickets are R30 per adult and free for children under 14. If you can't make it but would still like to contribute, check out the Toy Run's Toys R Us registry online to buy gifts. Alternatively, donations can be made on Quicket.
Here are the details for EFT donations:
Nedbank account number: 1676016228
Hout Bay branch code: 167609
Fax/email proof of payment to +27 (0)86 732 9717 or donation@toyrun.co.za
PLEASE NOTE
The organisers ask that riders do not join the bike run along the way - only from the designated starting points at the Grand Parade and GrandWest. Riders have to pre-register at Quicket. Regular road rules apply.
