Set amongst the peaks of the Twelve Apostles Mountain range Sandy Bay is a striking white sand beach, home to dolphins and seals and popular amongst surfers. The secluded gay-friendly spot is also the only unofficial nudist beach in South Africa where naturalists can let it all hang out for that perfect all over tan. It's equally acceptable to visit fully-clothed as the tranquil bay attracts hikers, conservationists and those who simply want to avoid the crowds at busier beaches.
The private beach is not accessible via car so it is best to park in the car park located by the Sandy Bay Road sign just after the first stop street at Llandudno. The 20 minute walk from the car park to the bay passes through colourful Cape fynbos vegetation, granite rocks and a series of wooden walkways have been built. Alternatively you can clamber over rocks from the southern end of Llandudno.
Although sheltered from Southerly and Easterly winds it does get windy sometimes. There is some crime in the area so it's a good idea to visit the beach at peak times and in groups.
