“South Africa is the whole world in one”

A guided geographical fynbos-tour through Noordhoek

Have you ever heard about erica turgida? Do you know why some plants need a fleece coverng and why the Atlantic Ocean around the Cape Town area is even colder in summer than in winter?

If you are interested in geographical phenomena and fynbos then Mark Voges is the guide for you. He has studied geography and is incredibly passionate about flora and fauna. For half a day he led me into a new world. He showed me all the natural wonders and explained the contexts and connections to me as we hiked up Chapman’s Peak in Noordehoek. It's unbelievable; there are about 9250 different types of fynbos species.

What I really liked about the tour was the fact that it was not just a day of learning, but also of sports activities.  Equipped with hiking shoes, sun cream and water we climbed up the hill.

Silence

A year ago Mark Voges established 'SanTours' to offer different tours to nature-lovers. He concentrates on fynbos and the coastal marine eco system. You could see whales or otters; and at the same time learn new things about them.

While on a break, some butterflies joined in, and a lizard was also keeping tabs on us.

“I love this silence. No nosiy traffic. Nothing too hectic.“ Mark said. “This country is quite multifaceted. It's the whole world in one.”

Everything your heart might desire

SanTours is a unique way to experience nature in Cape Town. Mark also offers guided wine tours in Stellenbosch, safaris, sunset-hikes, surfing lessons, mountain bike tours or even boat trips. Don‘t hesitate to contact him and ask for an extraordinary trip, he always has some great ideas about what you might like to see and do.
